Christmas brings up images of all sorts of good memories…. Family gatherings of old family members who haven’t seen each other for a while; meeting and getting to know new additions to the family; beautifully decorated trees, colorful lights; children with excitement on their faces….. wishing Santa would bring their favorite toy, clothing, and the newest thing in town; festive dinners with all the sweets you can think of and Christmas music of peace, love, and joy filling the airwaves.
If you strip all the above away, will there still be Christmas? In other words, will there be Christmas without all the trimmings?
To answer the question, we must first consider what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is Christ’s Day. Jesus Christ is the center of the season. Unfortunately because of the emphasis on buying and selling, giving and receiving of gifts, Santa Claus supposedly responsible for bringing happiness to children, along with other misinformation about the season, we have lost the true meaning of Christmas.
Yes, it will still be Christmas without all the trimmings.
There is no need for lights no matter how colorful, because Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. There is no darkness where He is present.
No need for decorated tries since He is the true Vine and those who follow Him are the branches of that vine.
There will still be Christmas without family. There are many people who do not have families during the season, and because the Lord is Father to the fatherless, he can fill the gap of Mother to the motherless and Children to the childless.
When it comes to food for Christmas, Jesus is sufficient because He is the Bread of Life. He feeds not only the physical body, but he feeds the soul as well. He promises to provide all our needs and will never abandon those who trust Him.
As for gifts… His is the greatest gift available to mankind; He offers the gift of deliverance from sin and access to the God of the universe. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him.
To experience the best Christmas this year, let the Lord Jesus Christ be the focus of your activities because actually, HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!
